Reading Help

Northwoods Reading Advantage

Northwoods Reading Advantage provides skills assessments and individualized reading instruction to clients in northern Wisconsin.

Our Services

Northwoods Reading Advantage offers a complete range of individualized instructional services, based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. These services include a comprehensive educational evaluation of the learner's reading and writing abilities, and a customized sequence of individualized instruction, designed around the assessed level of the student.

An initial consultation with one of our licensed instructors, to determine the proper course of action for each learner, is complimentary.

Educational Evaluation

The educational evaluation is an assessment process that will provide valuable information for both the instructor and the individual.  The process will include a comprehensive family, developmental, and medical history.  Review of previous testing, teacher and parent information, if available, and current test results will provide a clear understanding of the child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Typical Instructional Session

A typical session will last 50-75 minutes and will focus on decoding (reading),  encoding (spelling), and  reading comprehension.  Depending on the level of the student, the student may be learning sounds, syllables, or word origins (prefix, suffix, and roots).  Ongoing assessment will keep the learner and/or parent updated on where the learner is and how he or she is progressing.
